Most staging mistakes are not about taste — they are about scale, sightlines, and restraint.
1. Furniture too large for the room. A sofa that runs the entire wall makes a living room feel smaller, not grander. Leave breathing room around major pieces so the floor reads as generous.
2. Personal photography. Buyers shouldn't have to mentally remove your family before they imagine theirs. Replace personal frames with calm, abstract art.
3. Trendy palettes. Saturated jewel tones photograph poorly and date quickly. Stick to a neutral foundation with warm metals and natural texture.
4. Empty rooms. Wholly empty rooms read as small and cold in photos. Even a single styled chair, lamp, and rug can give a room scale and warmth.
5. Forgetting the photograph. Every staging decision should pass the listing-photo test. If it doesn't add to the frame, remove it.
